Peer-Owl: An Adaptive Data Dissemination Scheme for Peer-to-Peer Streaming Services

چکیده
More and more researchers have put their emphases on peer-to-peer streaming services, which can provide massive and cheap video-on-demand services. Data dissemination is one of the most important open problems when providing peer-to-peer streaming services, including live streaming and videoon-demand. Considering the performance and fault-tolerance of streaming systems, content should be distributed and replicated onto peer nodes according to some kind of strategy. In this paper, a novel data dissemination scheme is proposed. According to the proposal, media files are recoded into injected objects with several segments according to the characteristics of VCR operations’ frequency, without changing the media compressing formats. Then, a peer who wants to get one media file can acquire the corresponding segmented object files from many source peers, not from only one peer. The new scheme does not need any extra network bandwidth. Results from simulations have proved that our Peer-Owl scheme has good performances.

Size Does Matter (in P2P Live Streaming)
Optimal dissemination schemes have previously been studied for peer-to-peer live streaming applications. Live streaming being a delay-sensitive application, fine tuning of dissemination parameters is crucial. In this report, we investigate optimal sizing of chunks, the units of data exchange, and probe sets, the number peers a given node probes before transmitting chunks. Chunk size can have si...
متن کاملAdaptive peer-to-peer streaming over hybrid wireless networks
In this paper, we propose a centralised Peer-to-Peer (P2P) streaming over hybrid wireless networks to mitigate the congestion at the Access Point (AP) in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). In our proposed architecture, an adaptive receiver-driven mechanism is used to coordinate the streaming from multiple senders. We also propose a peer handoff scheme and an AP handoff scheme for video strea...

متن کاملA Novel Caching Strategy in Video-on-Demand (VoD) Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks Based on Complex Network Theory
The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...
متن کاملOptimizing Bandwidth Allocation in P2P Streaming Broadcast
In a typical peer-to-peer streaming model, a publisher provides the streaming content and the interested peers receive and disseminate data in a distributed fashion by forming an overlay. This form of distributed data dissemination makes p2p streaming highly scalable. But in reality, the peers are strategic and there is no incentive for them to contribute forward bandwidth towards other peers. ...
